2008 PLTW Summer Training Institutes (STI)

July 6-18, 2008 - University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
- Digital Electronics (DE)
- Introduction to Engineering Design (IED)

July 20 - August 1, 2008 - University of Illinois at Chicago
- Introduction to Engineering Design (IED)
- Principles of Engineering (POE)

Registration opened on March 18, 2008 on the national PLTW website at www.pltw.org/cgi-bin/trainsignup.asp. 

Registration fee:  $2,200 per teacher (schools will be billed)

Housing and parking (details to be posted March 15):       

Urbana-Champaign campus hotels ($90-100 per night plus 11% -- see details under each STI session link); $85 parking pass (optional)

Chicago dorm/condo ($630 for two weeks); $75 parking pass (optional)

• In order to register:
• Teachers must be registered under their school’s record. Visit http://www.pltw.org/teachreg.shtml to do this.
• Teachers must complete an online pre-assessment at this website, prior to registering for an STI. Watch for announcement of when these will become available.
• Teachers may not register for STI until a signed school agreement is on file with national PLTW.
• Illinois teachers must attend Illinois STI locations for courses offered in-state (GTT, BE, DE, IED, POE for 2008) unless special conflict permission is granted.
• Illinois teachers wishing to enroll in other PLTW STI courses not offered by Illinois should consult with Affiliate Director Brenda Pacey for assistance.
• After national online STI registration is entered, schools/teachers will receive an Authorization to Attend Summer Training Form from Illinois PLTW to completed and returned in order to finalize your registration and to arrange for invoicing.
• Teachers MUST bring a laptop computer which meets specifications found in the Guidelines section of the online PLTW Purchase Manual.
• Teachers must arrive to campus by late morning of the first Sunday of each STI, so that institute technology staff can load course software on your computer and so that you can attend important information sessions.
• Registered teachers will receive frequent email and mail communication during spring and early summer, with schedule and local arrangements details.

Continuing Education or Graduate Credit for Summer Training

-Illinois teachers are eligible to receive up to 80 CPDU’s (contact hours) professional development recognition for participation. Contact hour documentation will be provided for teachers from other states.

-Graduate credit is available for additional related Fall 2008 coursework and tuition payment. Details are available at each STI course link listed above.
