2012 PLTW Summer CoreTraining Institutes (CTI)

Registration fee:  $2,300 per teacher for two week sessions (schools will be billed); $1,150 per teacher for one-week sessions (schools will be billed)

Urbana-Champaign Campus Housing/Parking: Housing costs at area hotels with PLTW CTI blocks are $99 (plus 11% tax); details will be provided. Campus parking passes are $110 ($55 for one-week session); Schools pay for hotel directly. Schools will be billed for parking passes. Registration cost includes opening Sunday dinner, M-F lunches, and 1-2 extra dinners. Snacks, beverages provided.

Chicago Campus Housing/Parking: Housing cost at hotel one mile away with PLTW CTI block price of $139 per night (plus 15.4% tax); details to be provided. Schools pay for hotel directly and will be billed for optional $90 campus parking passes. Details will be provided when teachers register. Registration cost includes opening Sunday dinner, M-F breakfast and lunches, and 1-2 extra dinners. Snacks, beverages provided.

  • In order to register:
    • In order to register for any Summer Core Training Institute, your school must have submitted signed school agreement to Project Lead The Way, Inc and you must be a registered PLTW teacher.  New teachers may be invited by official District Delegate to attach to a school record. Refer to http://www.pltw.org/program-support/core-training; once you receive invitation to register you will be able to log in.
    • In order to register for a CTI, you must also first take the pre-assessment for the PTLW course you will be attending this summer. You will find the pre-assessments in February 2012 on the PTLW Virtual Academy, after logging in as a registered teacher, at www.pltw.org/login .
    • When you have completed the pre-assessment with a score of 75% you will be able to register for training, on the teacher console under Professional Development.  Registration for CTI training sessions will open on March 15th.
    • Illinois teachers must attend Illinois CTI locations for courses offered in-state (GTT DM/AR/EE ,GTT VEX/Robot C, GA, GTT DM, DE, IED, POE, CEA, EDD, Biotech for 2012) unless special conflict permission is granted.
    • Illinois teachers wishing to enroll in other PLTW CTI courses not offered by Illinois should consult with Affiliate Director Brenda Pacey for assistance, as soon as possible, to assure training reservation slots.
    • After national online CTI registration is entered, schools/teachers will receive an Authorization to Attend Summer Training Form from Illinois PLTW to completed and returned in order to finalize your registration and to arrange for invoicing.
    • Teachers MUST bring a laptop computer which meets specifications found in the Instructions section of the online PLTW Purchase Manual. Note: watch for updated technical specifications to be posted by February 2012.
    • Teachers must arrive to campus by early or mid-afternoon of the first Sunday of each CTI, so that institute technology staff can load course software on your computer and so that you can attend important information sessions.
    • Registered teachers will receive frequent email and mail communication during spring and early summer, with schedule and local arrangements details.

Continuing Education or Graduate Credit for Summer Core Training

-Illinois teachers are eligible to receive up to 80 CPDU’s (contact hours) professional development recognition for participation in Summer Core Training Institutes. Contact hour documentation will be provided for teachers from other states.

-Graduate credit is available for additional related Fall 2012 coursework and tuition payment. Details will become available by April 2012.
