Illinois PLTW Presence at national Summit in Orlando - Oct. 2017

More than 50 Illinois teachers, administrators, counselors and business partners attended the
October 22-25, 2017 national PLTW Summit in Orlando, Florida, joining almost 2000 others from
across the country.

U of Illinois PLTW hosted a display table in the Engagement Expo; a dozen Illinois Master Teachers met with their peers; and several Illinois PLTW teachers presented concurrent sessions:

  • Cindy Curtis (Evanston HS) and Kristen Perkins (Northwestern University)—WISTEM and WiE Introduction to Engineering Design: Beyond the Numbers
  • Don Whitman (Normal Community HS), assisted by Corey Duzan (Lockport Township HS)—Sweet Success of Engineering Design: STEM Activities Incorporating Geometric Shapes of Candy for All Ages
  • Michael Karasch (Fremd HS) and Gary Cotie (Bartlett HS/retired)—Streamlining ROBOTC Instruction: Quick Ways to Solve Common Problems
  • Jen Roden and Andrea Smith (VonSteuben HS, Chicago)—PLTW Engineering on a Tight Budget in an Urban Environment
  • Jen Roden (VonSteuben HS) and Kathleen Hurley (Peterson Elementary, Chicago)—Building K-12 STEM Connections with Robots
