ISBE Gender Equity Advisory Committee presentations

Two Illinois Project Lead the Way High Schools, James B. Conant and Evanston Township, shared their successful STEM equity and diversity experiences with the Illinois State Board of Education’s Gender Equity Advisory Committee (GEAC) at its February 10, 2017 meeting. Conant High School (District 211) sponsors annual GEMS Saturdays for elementary girls and their parents.  Additionally, all-female HS robotics teams exhibit collaborative group problem solving dynamics.  Evanston’s first all-female classroom setting for its 2016-17 WiE (Women in Engineering) Intro to Engineering Design class encourages creativity and confidence in a unique learning environment. The school’s WiSTEM Club, developed in collaboration with Northwestern University, is now in its third year.
