Registration is still open for June 9, 2017 DM Curriculum Update Workshop.

ALL Gateway DM schools will transition to the NEW curriculum no later than the start of the 2017-18 school year.

To assist Gateway teachers trained in Design and Modeling (DM) prior to summer 2016  with planning for revised curriculum and updated software/equipment implementation, U of Illinois PLTW is sponsoring  all-day hands-on DM Curriculum Update Workshops led by Illinois Gateway Master Teachers. More than 30 DM-trained teachers joined us at the November 30, 2016 Illinois PLTW Teacher Workshop Day for the first of these training sessions; and more than 40 more have attended earlier Spring 2017 sessions too. (Watch for announcement of additional August/September workshop dates and locations to be posted soon.)

NEW Gateway DM Curriculum Hands-on Workshop Agenda includes:

  • Examining the new DM course structure and APB scaffold;
  • Solving an instant design challenge;
  • Exploring new software tools (Sketchup, GeoGebra, OpenSim) and reviewing materials/supplies needed
  • Investigating resources available in the new DM Ongoing Training Course, including enhanced features (Key Terms, Tutorials, Quizzes, Teacher Resources)
  • Table talk discussions addressing cerebral palsy, assessment, mechanical dissections, statistical analysis
  • Planning to facilitate the new DM unit

All attendees are asked to bring laptops with Gateway DM software loaded -- Autodesk 123D; GeoGebra; Open Sim. (Other DM supplies will be provided for participant use at the workshops).
See the NEW Design and Modeling OT on the LMS for some overview and software information.

A detailed agenda for each Workshop Session, along with driving and parking directions, will be sent to those who confirm their availability to attend (please RSVP by March 1 for March 11, by April 17 for April 29 session, and by May 26 for the June 9 session).
